For decades people from all over the world have flocked to Hanmer Springs to relax and enjoy our thermal water. Starting as snow and rain almost 180 years ago, water seeps into the Greywacke basement and to a reservoir two kilometres underground, where it is warmed by the earth’s core.
The water is then drawn to the surface, where it is used for bathing and heating. Full of minerals, the natural water is known for its anti-aging properties and for and treating aches and pains.
After beginning as a single shed 150 years ago, Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa now features 22 outdoor thermal pools and four waterslides, including Conical Thrill; New Zealand’s largest aquatic thrill ride. Make the most of your escape with our private pools, a great option to enjoy with friends or loved ones, and overlooking beautifully manicured gardens.
With temperatures ranging from 28 degrees in our lap pool, to 42 degrees in our Sulphur and Cascade pools, there’s a pool to suit everyone. Our newly completed AquaPlay is perfect for the littles ones, and full of slides and spouts to keep them occupied for hours.
