The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, located in the heart of Marlborough is home to two exciting exhibitions both featuring mannequins by Weta Workshop. The first, Knights of the Sky is film maker, Sir Peter Jackson’s own collection of WW1 aircraft and artefacts. The story of aviation in the Great War is brought to life in sensational sets by WingNut Films and displays of rare memorabilia worthy of any national collection, range from beautifully crafted ‘trench art’ through to personal items belonging to the famous Red Baron himself.
Dangerous Skies, a new exhibition features aircraft from WW2 including two iconic aircraft; a Griffon-powered Spitfire and the Big Bad Wolf, the Focke Wulf FW-190 both of which can fly! Female pilots feature more prominently in this exhibition and in a world first (outside of Russia) the Battle of Stalingrad leaps off the pages of history in a truly thought-provoking cinematic experience.
Also on offer are joy flights in an open-cockpit bi-plane, the world’s only flyable Avro Anson Mk.1 bomber or an adrenaline pumping Russian Yak-3 fighter!
